Employee Spotlight

Shane Griffith

Firefighter

Shane joined the EPFD in May of 2019, but has served as a firefighter for 16 years. He graduated from the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School and received his fire certification at Stark State College. He is employed as the CMB Warehouse Team Lead at the Shell Pennsylvania Petrochemicals Complex, formally known as Shell Polymers Monaca, which is an ethylene cracker plant located in Potter Township, PA. Shane is recently engaged and enjoys playing video games on the computer he built. He has watched every season of “The Office” at least six times, and can freely quote from the show in any given situation. Shane would like to obtain more certifications, learn even more at his job, and be a leader at the EPFD. He says, “I enjoy doing something I love with some of the best people I have ever met and the best friends I have ever had."

Officer Highlight

Rick Gorby

Deputy Chief

Rick graduated from the East Palestine High School, then obtained his Volunteer Firefighter certification. Rick has been a firefighter at the EPFD for 35 years, serving as an officer for the last 15 years and is the president of the East Palestine Volunteer Firefighters’ Association. He enjoys all aspects of service, especially mentoring the younger, upcoming officers. He and his wife, Karen, have owned and operated Gorby's Grocery for 34 years and have three children and nine grandchildren. His favorite thing to do is anything the grandkids are doing and watching them play sports. The words he lives by are never give up and always talk to and treat people the way you want to be treated. Fun fact:  He was on the David Letterman Show!

“MYID” PROGRAM

East Palestine Fire Dept EMS is partnering with MyID to provide a method to safely store and allow retrieval of critical medical information in time of need by medical service providers. This is a program that provides a cloud-based system to store and manage medical information to provide first-responders vital data on your medical issues/allergies/medications in the event you can’t communicate with them. Users create a free medical profile and emergency medical personnel simply scan the QR code on the bracelet or wallet card to access your online medical profile in a few short seconds.
