Mission Statement – Excellence in service to the public is the ultimate goal of the East Palestine Police Department. We are committed to protecting the lives, property and the rights of all people who live in or visit the Village of East Palestine. The service provided to each individual should reflect our very best efforts and resources. Our daily activities and efforts are channeled to enforcing the law impartially and providing quality police service in hopes of reducing crime and improving the quality of life in our community. As sworn officers we are committed to the use of sound police strategies, the continued development of community relationships and attaining the highest degree of ethical behavior and professional conduct. The achievement of these goals requires all employees of the department to perform their duties in a professional manner and in a way that earns the respect, trust, and cooperation of the public we serve.

Non-Discrimination – While the discretion that is essential in police work inevitably results in some degree of variation in the handling of matters from case to case, the department recognizes that biased or discriminatory law enforcement practices are inherently unfair, undermine the confidence of those we serve, and diminish the quality of life in our community. The ethics of law enforcement require that we be guided by the principles of honesty and fairness, that we provide equal protection under the law to all people, that we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, lifestyle, sexual orientation or other personal bias, and that we act without regard to personal preference or influence.

Recognizing that the problems of crime and public safety extend across jurisdictional boundaries, the East Palestine Police Department is committed to working closely with all other local, state, and federal law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. The department is equally committed to establishing close ties with the public and responding to the needs of the community. In this regard, all employees must attempt to make each contact one that inspires respect for themselves and for the department.

EAST PALESTINE COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

Excellence in service to the public is the ultimate goal of the East Palestine Communications Division. The service provided to each individual should reflect our very best efforts and resources. Our daily activities and efforts are channeled to providing quality dispatching services in hopes of expediting safety service response times and improving the quality of life in our community. As dispatchers we are committed to the continued development of community relationships and attaining the highest degree of ethical behavior and professional conduct. The achievement of these goals requires all employees of the division to perform their duties in a professional manner and in a way that earns the respect, trust, and cooperation of the public we serve.

The East Palestine Communications Division is a vital part of our safety services as they are often the first point of contact with our citizens. The Communications Division is responsible for receiving and dispatching calls for police, fire and EMS services for three (3) jurisdictions and eight (8) departments.

Our dispatchers are also responsible for receiving and properly referring or handling inquiries from citizens and other agencies. The dispatchers report directly to a Police supervisor as assigned. One dispatcher is designated to serve as the LEADS Terminal Agency Coordinator and acts as the Chief’s liaison.

East Palestine is a public-safety answering point (PSAP / 911 center), therefore, all East Palestine dispatchers are certified as both PST (public safety telecommunicators) and EMD (emergency medical dispatchers). Our dispatchers pride themselves in being “the calm in the chaos”.

MEET K-9 OFFICER TONEY

She is a Belgian Malinois trained in narcotics, tracking and article searches. Toney has been a valued member of the East Palestine Police Department since 2012. Lt. Johnson and K-9 Toney receive annual training and certification through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA), the North American Police Working Dog Association (NAPWDA) and the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers (NAPCH).
